Collection: Doug Johnson

A creative in many mediums Doug Johnson has always strived to create unique and one of a kind pieces that capture his inner world and the world around him.

Doug's adventures with clay began as a boy through arts and crafts projects at summer camp growing up in Southeast Michigan. Unfortunately his schools didn’t offer ceramics and the next time he touched clay would be more than 40 years later when he signed up for ceramics class at a local studio to explore creativity beyond his usual outlets of photography and glassblowing.

Since that first class, he’s learned to hand-build tiles, cast plaster molds and throw on the potter’s wheel - which quickly became his favorite way to work with clay. Much like a golfer may have a love/hate relationship with the game, there are times when he still struggles with the finer points of his craft, but the journey so far has been the best creative outlet he could image and is now pursuing his passion full time.

Doug’s currently exploring never-before-seen ways to combine traditional surface decorating techniques such as sgraffito and crackle with nontraditional glaze applications.

We are very excited to offer Doug's first ever weathered bronze crackle sunflower vase exclusively at the gallery. Doug is Preston Gallery's only international artist and we are very excited to bring you these unique and innovative pieces.

Doug is available for commissions and creative clay consulting.
