Bronze Age Sunflower Vase by Doug Johnson

What can we say about this piece that it doesn't say itself - this large vase is just stunning in every way possible.  Its tall yet study design showcases the multiple techniques and glazes used on this piece.

The sgraffito detailing around the upper portion of the vase gives way to the aged copper tones which take advantage of the "crackle" to form depth within the texture and a multitude of colour.  This vase also features a hidden sunflower on the bottom of the pot - a signature of the artist when working in sgraffito. 

The bronze tone glaze is carried over into the interior of this piece showcasing the range of colour this glaze has.  

Due to the makeup of this glaze it is no longer produced and only limited supply left means this piece and colours may never be produced again.
