Collection: Leslie Bertin
Leslie Bertin is a Canadian visual artist from Newmarket Ontario who explores the medium of ink on canvas and paper. Bertin's work is inspired from the world around her, they are emotionally charged and rooted in capturing light and movement. She creates images that are a visual translation of emotion portrayed through light, colour, form, pattern and movement. She uses art to communicate without words, and tells story through colour. Bertin's pieces are full of nuance and portray the ebb and flow of rhythmical fluid patterns of coming and going, decline and regrowth. Her process is organic as she pushes the boundaries and possibilities of inks. Deceptive in their simplicity, people come to Bertin’s artwork with their own experiences and draw their own opinions on what they see.
Bertin studied theatre at the University of Windsor, National Theatre School and is the Founder and active member of the Newmarket Group of Artists. Having been involved in the arts her entire life, her contributions continually play a part in creating an inclusive arts community.
Bertin has always believed that collaboration over competition is the key to success. Since she has worked and volunteered in varying disallowed, Bertin has seen the magic of what happens when different groups, disciplines and industries come together. Open discussion , thoughtful communication and in the end, creative exploration can bring a wealth of knowledge to any question or topic. By creating a group that brings artists of all disciplines together, Bertin has shown that strength really does come from unity.
Currently, Bertin is exploring bringing her passion of lighting design into her visual art practice. But uniting these two different mediums, she hopes to explore more fully colour and movement along with the illumination of art.
