Nicosia Green Earth is sourced from deposits in southeastern Cyprus, near the capital city of Nicosia. This pigment is a green earth composed of hydrated iron potassium silicate, a pigment derived from the minerals celadonite and glauconite.
Green earth pigments were widely used in the under paintings of human flesh during the Medieval and Renaissance periods. A cool, green earth, Nicosia Green Earth is useful in portrait, landscape, and botanical paintings.
