Collection: Voices of HG: Canadians Speak Through Art

We invite Canadian artists, including family members and caregivers with lived experience of Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG), to submit 1–3 original artworks for consideration in the Voices of HG Art Show.

This exhibition aims to elevate the voices and experiences of Canadians affected by HG. Through creative expression, we seek to raise awareness, foster understanding, and advocate for improved care and support.

Eligibility

  • Open to artists 18 years of age or older who live or work in Canada
  • Artists may submit up to three (3) original works
  • Collaborative works are welcome
  • All contributing artists must be credited at the time of submission
  •  One application may be submitted per collaborative work
  • Maximum artwork size: 48” wide × 72” tall
  •  All mediums are welcome, including but not limited to: painting, drawing, ceramics, photography, jewelry (handmade), digital art, film, video, poetry, and written works
  • Fully AI-generated works will not be accepted
  • Selection will take place online only. Please do not drop off works in person unless selected.

 

Content Warnings & Sensitive Material

This exhibition seeks to honour the full spectrum of lived experiences with Hyperemesis Gravidarum. Graphic, emotionally intense, or traumatic content is permitted.

  • Artists are required to identify content warnings at the time of submission
    Works containing graphic or sensitive material will be displayed in a designated area behind a screen or divider, allowing visitors to engage with this work at their own discretion
  • Appropriate signage and content advisories will be provided

This exhibition may not be suitable for all audiences.

 

Installation & Presentation Requirements

  • The exhibition will be installed and mounted by the curatorial panel
  • 2D works must be gallery-ready with D-rings and picture wire. Sawtooth hangers will not be accepted
  • 3D works must include any special display or installation instructions at the time of submission
  • Written works must be submitted with final display formatting already in place
    • Short works may be displayed as wall text
    • Longer works may be presented in binder, booklet, or zine format

 

Digital, Film & New Media Works

Digital, film, and new media submissions are welcome; however, due to technical considerations:

  • Artists must contact the organizers prior to submitting work in these formats
  • Runtime, file format, sound, and technical requirements will be discussed on a case-by-case basis, depending on gallery capacity

 

Sales & Commission

  • Artwork may be offered for sale, but participation does not require works to be for sale
  • Artists must indicate a sale price or Not For Sale (NFS) status for each work at the time of submission
  • Works sold during the exhibition are subject to a 35% commission retained by Preston Gallery
  • Sale prices may not be changed once work has been accepted

 

Application Fees

  • Early Bird Fee: $20.00 (covers up to 3 works)
    • Open June 12–July 4, 2026
  • Standard Fee: $30.00 (covers up to 3 works)
    • Open July 5–18, 2026

All fees are non-refundable.


Notification Dates

  • Submissions Open June 5th - June 26th Early Bird Submissions 
  • Regular Submissions June 27th - July 18th 5PM
  • Submissions will be reviewed by the selection panel on July 19, 2026
  • Artists will be notified of acceptance or rejection on July 20, 2026

Artwork Delivery & Insurance

  • Accepted works must be delivered or shipped at the artist’s expense by Friday, July 31, 2026
  • Artists are responsible for all transportation, shipping, and insurance to and from Preston Gallery
  • Preston Gallery assumes insurance responsibility only while works are onsite
  • Accepted artworks must remain on display for the full duration of the exhibition
  • Artwork must be picked between Wednesday, September 2 and Saturday, September 12, 2026 unless shipped by the artist’s expense.

 

Withdrawal Policy

Artists may withdraw accepted work with written notice up to July 31, 2026.
Withdrawals after this date may not be accommodated due to exhibition planning and installation timelines.

 

Exhibition Dates

  • Exhibition Run: August 8–30, 2026
  • Opening Reception & Artist Talk: August 8, 2026 (time TBD)

Image Use & Final Decisions

By submitting, artists grant permission for Preston Gallery and HG Canada to use images of accepted works for promotional and documentation purposes.

The selection panel and gallery reserve the right to decline any artwork that does not meet exhibition standards or eligibility requirements. All decisions are final.

I confirm that I am 18 years of age or older who live or work in Canada.

I confirm that this work is my original creation.
I understand that submitted work must be ready to hang/display.  
I understant that I retains copyright of my work. I grants permission for the exhibition organizers to use images for promotional purposes.
I understand that work must remain on display for the duration of the exhibition.
Accepted artists are responsible for delivery and pickup of work.
