"Mist/Missed" explores the hazy terrain of memory and the poignant ache of what might have been. The title plays on the double meaning of "missed" - both the act of overlooking something and the yearning for a lost opportunity. The painting is veiled in a soft mist, representing the way nostalgia can distort and obscure the past. Through this misty lens, I aim to capture the bittersweet beauty of cherished memories tinged with a sense of loss. The colors in "Mist/Missed" are a deliberate blend of warm and cool tones. The warm hues evoke the comfort and familiarity of the past, perhaps the parts of our memories that we cling to, while the cool tones signify a sense of distance and the elusiveness of those memories. The brushstrokes are loose and gestural, reflecting the uncertainty and ambiguity of recollection. This piece is deeply personal, drawing inspiration from my own experiences with mental health. The mist can also be seen as a metaphor for the fogginess that can accompany depression or anxiety. However, amidst the haze, there are glimpses of light and colour, symbolizing hope and the possibility of finding peace within the past.
