Where The Group of Seven Loved to Paint, ON by Lesa Robertson

My Ontario contribution to this album about Canada features some of

my favourite subjects - water, rocks, trees and sky, the scenes typical

of Northern Ontario. I painted this piece from front to back and was

happy with the way everything was going until I got to the trees. I

really struggled with the colour and the shapes of the foliage. Finally I turned to the Group of Seven for study and inspiration - this group knew a thing or two about painting the iconic Canadian pine tree. This research also inspired the "Jeopardy" structured title, "Where the Group of Seven Loved to Paint". If you guessed the northern Ontario wilderness, Algonquin Park, Georgian Bay or Algoma region.
