Stoneground - Alizarin Crimson Hue (Synthetic - Half Pan)

Alizarin Crimson is a rich red pigment with a cool undertone known for its wide range of colour mixing possibilities. The original hue of Alizarin came from the roots of the madder plant, and was used as a dye thousands of years before it was made into a lake pigment and named Alizarin Crimson. The original pigment is not considered lightfast however today’s artist grade watercolours are made from permanent and stable synthetic alternatives.

Artist’s Notes: Combine Alizarin Crimson Hue with a variety of blues for beautiful purples ranging from royal purples to lilac and plum, or combine with Aureolin or Gamboge for fiery orange hues. Alizarin Crimson Hue can also be mixed with Phthalo Green Yellow Shade for deep, almost black neutrals.

Paint Maker’s Notes: Stoneground's Alizarin Crimson Hue is a combination of Quinacridone Red (PV 19) and India Red (PR 101) pigments to recreate the original pigment which is not considered lightfast.
