"Here was certainly a learning experience for me; of my art, my mind, and myself. I decided to veer away from my habit of excruciating perfectionism and planning, and to own my intuition all the way. I took a risk to be more messy, chaotic, and unplanned in my artistic process than ever before. Here reflects my goal of manifesting my inner spiritual world more than anything I’ve made before. It looks like me. It is Here that I remember who I am. I exercised my intuition to a new degree and worked with the canvas spontaneously. It was more of a partnership than a one-sided creation. Therefore, it was made with more depth, realness, and Love, which comes through in the final piece. During the creation of this piece, and in communication with artist (and my professor) Robyn Cumming, I learned that my idea of beauty is distorted. I believed that beauty had to be clean, organized, and “perfect”. As my art is an extension of me, this notion of beauty translated to how I saw myself. It was incredibly liberating to become conscious of this, and to see how beauty (especially in my main physical inspiration- nature) is often tangled, messy, unorthodox, chaotic, and wild. But maybe this means that it is free.”
