Collection: Donald J. Gauley

Donald J. Gauley started drawing in the later 1990's with two pens and a pad of paper.  What started out as a way to escape everyday life quickly developed into a passion for drawing local landscapes.  Donald's early work consisted of lots of drawings of the local golf courses often with a humours twist added.

Donald published his first book of his collection of golf cartoons in 2002.  This lead to him submitting work and showing in 2014 in the Uxbridge Celebration of The Arts 2014 with his pen and ink drawing Ux1.

Donald has called Uxbridge home for over 25 years finding inspiration naturally from the sites and architecture in town. Donald describes his process as a natural feel that flows onto the page.

It was shortly after his first juried show that Donald has started to explore pastels - at a family members urging to create a work for her in colour of her flowers, Donald quickly adapted this new found medium to follow suite with his passion for local scenes.  Though now exploring abstract work in pastel Donald still enjoys capturing detail with his pen and ink drawings.
